Venice, Saint Mark's Square 3

These three buildings are called the Procuratie, and specifically the Procuratie Nuove (left), Procuratie Nuovissime (middle), and Procuratie Vecchie (right). The Procuratie Vecchie was the first one built in 1532, then the Nuovissime in 1586. The Procuratie Nuove was built on Napolean's express wishes in 1810. These are basically the offices of the Procurator's or the people of power who ran the city worked, both politicians and powerful businessmen. The picture doesn't do justice how impressive having three sides of the square completely blocked in by these tall buildings is, what an effect it must have had to visitors and citizens back in the day.
