We also drove by, but didn't stop at the Hôtel national des Invalides so this is the best picture I had. This structure began life in 1670 as a home and hospital for aged and unwell soldiers. Eventually it was turned into a war museum but is probably best known as the burial site of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Interesting note given by Valerie, Napoleon wasn't short counter to the popular myth. He was 5'7" which was actually above average at the time. It was British newspapers who started the whole short thing in an attempt to mock him and it stuck.
