London, Trafalgar Square 2

The square as it exists today opened in 1844. It's original intent was to highlight the National Gallery, seen in the background here, but it quickly became the cultural center of London. New Years and Christmas are very popular in the square, as are rallies and demonstrations. Bloody Sunday took place in Trafalgar Square.

There are a lot of sculptures around the square, but arguably the most famous are the four Landseer Lions. Named after their creator Edwin Landseer, they guard Nelson who stands on top of the column behind them.
