Next on the Grand Canal was the Palazzo Santa Sofia, otherwise known as Ca' d'Oro. It was built in 1428 for the Contarini family, a very wealthy clan several of whom become Doges of Venice. It changed hands several times through the years ending with the Franchetti family who collected art. It's now a public art museum known as
Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca' d'Oro.
