The Palace of Westminster has two histories. There is the old palace, who'se story ends in 1834 when a huge fire burned most of it to the ground. The new palace was planned and built over many subsequent years, for the most finishing in 1860 and is what you see today.
It's the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two houses of the Parliament of the UK.
