Stone Penny

These stone walls are everywhere in rural Ireland, and you can see them randomly running up hills to nowhere or just stopping without closing anything in. Carol explained that during the famine people were desperate to work so anyone with money to spare would put them to work building these walls for a penny a day. Hence they are often called Penny Walls. Some were actually useful but most served no purpose other than giving folks a way to earn a penny.
