Bus Bobby

The Greyfriars Bobby. This pub was built in 1722 but in itself isn't historically all that interesting. The story of Bobby the dog is apparently extremely popular in Scotland.

The best-known version of the story is that Bobby belonged to John Gray, who was a policeman.  When Gray died he was buried in Greyfriars Kirkyard. Bobby came and sat at his master's grave for the next 14 years, becoming a local legend. He would be fed by the townspeople, especially Sir William Chambers who went on to found the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. When Bobby died in 1872 he was buried near his master.

This has been retold in several books and a couple of movies. The last one The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby in 2006.
