At the very top of the castle in that middle gap is the famous Blarney Stone. You have to lay on your back and be lowered down to kiss it, hence the three metal bars there to catch you if the guy holding your legs has a bad day. The legend has it that Cormac Laidir McCarthy was involved in a big lawsuit he feared he was doomed to loose. The goddess Clíodhna, Queen of the Banshee appeared and told him if he kissed the first stone he found on the way to court, he would win. He did and he did. He was so overjoyed he dug the stone up and made it a part of his castle. The stone officially imparts "the ability to deceive without offending."
