Another unexpected surprise was the inclusion of the Gemini B, used in the Manned Orbiting Laboratory (MOL) project. This was a project the Air Force was developing to put Astronauts on a space station so they could manually take surveillance pictures. It was cancelled before it ever took off. The significance to Dad was this was the program that brought him to Vandenberg and it was cancelled the day after he signed in, leaving him with no assignment. Since he had signed in they said he had to stay and assigned him to be the satellite manager for the Hexagon project.
