Built in 1191it's most famous office holder was Jonathan Swift. It was used up until Henry the 8th's reformation period, after which it was mostly abused by various British occupiers such as Oliver Cromwell (a man who came up several times during the tour and is loathed in Ireland for good reason), who sacked the place and used it for his stables. The Cathedral was rotting and falling down until rescued by Benjamin Guinness and restored out of the Guinness family pockets between 1860 and 1865.
