And finally, we came down O'Connell street, Dublin's main thoroughfare. Here they have a statue to the street's namesake Daniel O'Connell. O'Connell came up several times throughout the trip, he's a popular figure in Ireland. He was an Irish political leader in the first half of the 19th century that campaigned for Catholic emancipation and won them rights denied for over 100 years, as well as the repeal of the Acts of Union which combined Great Britain and Ireland.That he didn't achieve but he is seen as the father of later movements that did.
