Almost Cool

All back together and working again.

Not Cool

The fridge portion of our refrigerator stopped working last night, though the freezer was still fine. It also popped up an error code on the front panel. There was some ice built up in the back left corner of the fridge so we unplugged it, put food in coolers, defrosted the corner with a hair dryer, plugged it back in and the error went away and it seemed to be cooling.

We came down the next morning to find the error was back and it was not cool at all. So after rushing what food we could save up to my folks working fridge, I stayed home to wait for a repair man suggested by LG. Luckily he could come today, and based on the error knew what to bring.

So he took the back panel off to reveal the entire coil was one solid block of ice, our little corner defrost was nothing. The fan had stopped working, so he thawed it all out (with his own hair dryer, I don't know why I thought they'd have some special thawing tool) and replaced the entire back panel because it only comes as one one piece you can't just get a fan.

Clown Attic To Wonder Room

We're having some issues with our refrigerator, so I went up to the folks place to see if they had a cooler to save some food. I came back with a carry cooler, a big Coleman cooler, and a portable fridge all from under the house. I was not surprised by this result.

Pretty Doomed

Back in 1993 the original Doom came out and is considered one of the most important games in video game history as it basically invented the FPS genre. Well they rebooted the franchise with Doom (known as Doom 2016 in the community to distinguish the two and yes it came out 2 years ago and I'm just playing it now.) Great graphics, fun gameplay and surprisingly good story.

Slammer Summit

But that's not all. The white layer was followed by glue, then a layer of brown tiles, then more glue, another layer of brown tiles, yet more glue, and then a layer of black tiles. Finally, they put down another layer of white (though a different material than the first.) You can see the finished product in the upper right.

Clink Canopy

Watching them work on the jail continues to interest me (and probably only me). They started on the roof today, I don't why I had assumed it would just stay bare concrete. First they painted a section with something pink which I assume is a sealant. Then they put down a layer of white plastic with a peel off sticky back.

The Art Of Waiting

Mari and I are waiting to pick up Mom and Dad, returning from a trip to Alaska. In the lounge area was a cool art display of found wood objects by Rebecca Ruegger. Helped pass the time pleasantly.

Even Mo' Monkey Madness!

You may or may not remember that Monkey Island is one my all time favorite classic series from the early 90s. They have been re-releasing them updated to work on modern operating systems, starting with the first one, then the second, and they just released the third (there are four.) It only took me two days to finish, but remember back then games were shorter (limited by disk space) and I'd also already played it so a lot of the puzzles came back to me. Still fun!

WOTM

The best thing that can be said of August is it's one month closer to cooler weather. But you never know maybe ol' August will surprise us.
