Loosely Based

Ready Player One is one of my favorite books, I've read it several times and listened to Wil Wheaton do the audiobook. It was an impossible book to turn into a movie, and I knew from reviews this was not the book, so Mari and I went in with very low expectations. If you are a book purist and can't divorce yourself from that, you will not like the movie. There is very, very little the same. If you can set that aside and enjoy it for what it is, I thought it was a great movie. We happened to run into our friend Steve at the showing, who also loved the book and he fell into the former category so your mileage will definitely vary.

Nier Miss

Finished Nier: Automata this evening. A JRPG that came highly recommended from several sources. It just didn't click with me and I ended up abandoning the side quests to just finish the three main storylines. I found the character designs really silly as well which took some of the seriousness out of the story.

March March

The March For Our Lives, Nashville version. First science, then women, now guns. If there's one good thing about Trump, it's that I've never seen this much political activism.

Cave In

Then we hit the upper gallery to see an installation by artist Nick Cave, mixing some of his soundsuits, a mesmerizing video, and then this piece made of beads on bamboo suspended from the ceiling that shifted images as you walked around it. For instance the leopard that appeared at a certain angle.

Been There

Given our recent trip we wanted to go see what they had on Rome and were not disappointed. It was a huge display with tons of artifacts and took us almost two hours to see everything. Now having been to Rome it was fun to match places and things with locations we had visited.

Flagrant Flowers

Heading to the Frist to see their exhibition on the history of the city of Rome. The current outside artwork these giant flowers.

Not So Clean Living

I celebrated the achievement by having an evening cigar out on my new deck. Romeo y Julietta - Romeo # 2.

Half Rotten

Between going to Home Depot to pick it all up, lifting and carrying, then the hassle of ripping up the old decking we only got about half way through today but it's looking really good. Luckily the cross beams weren't rotten like the top planks so we didn't have to do even more work.

Rotten Weekend

The deck has gotten into pretty rough shape after 20 years, so it was time to do something about it. Dad had recently redone his deck with Trex, a synthetic board that's supposed to be maintenance free for at least 25 years. It's a bit more expensive but not having to mess with sanding and staining for 25 years sounded like a good deal, so off to Home Depot we went.

Shooting For Average

Sniper Elite is an average game series. It does some things very well, but it's not great. Still when it gets down into the bargain bins I always pick up the latest version, I know it's not going to blow my socks off but it always delivers a solid, short bit of satisfying entertainment. Part 4 is no different, though this one was a little better the the previous incarnations.
