We got up earlier than the rest of the family so we decided to be adventurous and explore the block around the hotel. We shopped at our first bodega (thus avoiding paying 3 bucks for a can of soda at the hotel), found the ubiquitous Starbucks, and a bagel shop we will hit later to experience true New York bagels. All while wandering a city covered in snow. A pain in the ass for travelers like my sister who got stuck in Milwaukee overnight, but a treat for us.
