Florence, Piazza della Signoria

This arched structure is called the Loggia dei Lanzi, and is basically a open air sculpture gallery. The most famous of this group is arguably the two Medici Lions. The Loggia dei Lanzi sits right next to the building that used to be the town hall and seat of governmental power for Florence. You might notice beyond the Medici's symbols of power, most of the statues are fighting, getting beaten, or on the far left is Perseus with the severed head of Medusa. This is no coincidence, this was the Medici's little reminder of who was in charge and what happened to those who might cross them.
