This Party Is Lit

We (Mari, Dad, and I) went to a firefighter / truck themed dual birthday for Kyle and Christiana's two boys Silas (turning 3) and Everett (turning 1). Kind of out of our wheelhouse since there are no kids under 40 in our combined households, but it was still fun to go and aside from it being scorching hot we had a very nice time. I know this picture is a little weird, but I didn't want to be taking pictures of a bunch of stranger's kids and putting them online. So this is what you get.

Amazing sunset tonight, cameras never do things like this justice.

Hot Rod Chicken

Just because I liked the art.

That Slow Burn

And what better way to end Father's Day than with the best food ever invented, at one of the best places that makes it, Slow Burn Hot Chicken.

Kitten Time

A personal favorite sketch of Tom Kitten.

Peter The First

An original copy of Peter Rabbit with the "second format" cover.

Popular Pete

She wrote and illustrated over 23 books, but is probably best known for Peter Rabbit.

Drawn To Nature

It was interesting to read about her life and learn her children's books were just one small piece of her portfolio. Before publishing them she was interested in all kinds of flora and fauna and did some very intricate, photo-realistic drawings that showed immense talent. Then later in life she stopped writing and focused on farming, land conservation, and the preservation of Herdwick sheep which at the time were slowly going extinct.

Pottery Print

Then we went on to the main event which was the Beatrix Potter display. Like the guitar display it had it's own pamphlet to go with it.

Heart Strings

This was one of my favorite pieces of art in the display.

Storied Strings

Here's the inside of the of the pamphlet.

Guitar By Numbers

We weren't expecting it but on the first floor was a pretty cool exhibit about the history of guitars used in art. Here's the cover of the pamphlet on this installation.

Father Frist

For Father's Day this year Mari is taking Dad and I to the Frist Art Museum to to check out the Beatrix Potter display, which I've been wanting to see for a while.

Skeksis

We spotted this bald cardinal and thought maybe something was wrong with it, but a quick search informed us it's fairly rare but sometimes they molt all their head feathers. Mari is worried the other cardinals will make fun of him. I think he belongs in the Dark Crystal.

Future Punk Redemption

When Cyberpunk 2077 released in December of 2020 it was infamously very broken. It was so bad that on Playstation they pulled it from the store and offered refunds until CD PROJEKT RED could sort everything out. For those that the game did work for, mostly us PC players, many of the advertised features simply weren't there. Well CD PROJEKT RED promised to make it right and to their credit they've come a long way in three years, fixing most of the bugs, getting it re-released on Playstation, and adding tons of promised features. If the game had been released as it is today, it would have been a really good game. I played through it once a while back, post disaster release but still not very complete. So I did a second run recently and they've improved the game a lot. It's still not perfect, but now it's very enjoyable. And they aren't done, they announced a bunch of new updates in the coming months. So good on them for making it right, and I'd certainly recommend the game as it is now. A very good cyberpunk RPG.

Triangle Roots

I'm pretty happy with how the outside of our house currently looks, but this one little patch of dirt vexes me. What to do with it?

Trick question. Based on the number of dog beds in this picture how many live in this house?

Halos Are Infinite

I finished Halo Infinite a while ago and realized I never blogged it, so this is a catch up post. This is the 6th Halo in the series and I've played them all but 5 which was never released to PC for some reason. I enjoyed the campaign and the new open(ish) world play style. The story was solid and the action is always smooth in a Halo game.
