Teaf
This is what happens when you put your glass of tea down on the stairs and go get something else. I couldn't get the picture off before she stopped "sharing" my drink though.

Phoning It In
Working from home over VPN until Monday, for those few who can't work from home (or for some reason don't want to) they set up a temporary office in the Historic Courthouse. I still have to drive in each morning to box the backup tapes, but I get to wait until after rush hour so the drive isn't bad. Today the parking lot was full of AT&T trucks, so I guess progress is being made.

Fryday
The power was still out this morning at PWT, but I had to drive down to the CJC anyway because our backup tapes still needed to be catalogued and sent out to the vault. I don't know why this picture turned out so tiny, but that's some kind of industrial structural drying machine outside PWT.
UPDATE: Just got an e-mail from the department head, PWT is officially closed until Friday. Not sure if I'll keep working from home, or what the deal will be, but there you have it.

We Don't Need No Water
So I'm on call tonight, and I start to get notifications that the power is out at my building the Parkway Tower (PWT). We don't keep anything important in the small server room there, all our important stuff is housed at the Police Datacenter called the CJC, so I'm not too concerned but still I'm keeping an eye on it. And then this comes on New Channel 5. Turns out there was some kind of electrical explosion in the basement of the PWT that caused a fire. It was so surreal to be sitting here trying to figure out my power problem, then to see footage on the news of my building surrounded by fire trucks. At this point they don't know the extent, or if the building will be open tomorrow so...interesting times.

Rookie
Really good first book from this author, if you like urban fantasy go get it. Here's hoping there are some sequels in the future.

Corporate Space
The SpaceX Falcon went into space today, becoming the first spaceflight undertaken by a private company. Hopefully this is the start of a new era in space exploration, this time the race being between companies not countries.

Over The Counter
Found this new (to me at least) place to eat out near where I work called the Pharmacy. Been out there several times now, really, really good food.

Punk Out
Neal Stephenson is best known for his cyberpunk novels like Snow Crash, so I was expecting something similar but this is nothing like that. It's very much like a Tom Clancy thriller. Not bad, just not what I thought it would be. But hey, if you like Tom Clancy go get it.

The Big Space Apple
Two of my favorite things, New York and the Space Shuttle. This is the Enterprise on its way to the Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum.

Avenged
Watched The Avengers today, it was really good. And...that's about all I have to say about that, go see it.

Towering Above
Burned through this in two days, The Dark Tower continues to be the best thing Stephen King has done (in one reader's opinion of course.)
