Gold Game

Canada wins gold over the U.S. in a helluva hockey game.

Going Rate

Not sure what the Tennessean is thinking. In the age of fading dead tree publications and rocky economic times they just announced a not-insignificant rate hike. I like my crisp newspaper for Saturday morning coffee and bagels, but we're thinking of cancelling now.

Recycled Ghosts

I really like this piece posted on iO9 from artist Sayaka Ganz. It's called "Emergence" but I prefer Ghost Horses. All made from reused items, like plastic kitchen spoons and old toys.

Rerouting

Our wireless router was randomly disconnecting, possibly because we have so many wireless devices now. So it was time to upgrade.

Alma's Back

After finally mastering the excellent as always Mass Effect, it's time for the next one. F.E.A.R. 2.

Cold Snap

After all the cold and snow. Sunny, high fifties, and clear. A nice day for car washing.

Powerfully Sleepy

And this is the view out the window near my cube at 5am, the time I needed to come in to make sure all of our systems were functioning again for the day ahead.

Powerless

This is what my cube looks like when the power goes out to half of downtown Nashville.

Flix It Now

Being gadget geeks we have added a Roku box to our techno-toy menagerie. It's purpose-built for high quality streaming from Netflix, Amazon Unbox, and other services in the future (Hulu is rumored to be coming to it.)

Flix It

We finally joined the cult of Netflix.

Diversifying

As a government employee there are a series of mandatory classes you have to take. This morning I have my first, Diversity Awareness. Sounds captivating.

Snow Balls

Found on the nightly dog walk, some merry pranksters crafted their own version of Frosty. Or at least a part of him.

Last Night

What is expected to be the final nighttime launch for the Space Shuttle. A little bummed to see it go but really they were built to have a lifespan of 100 launches over 10 years and that was in the early 80's. In 2010 you'd think we would have progressed to something cutting edge.

Stuperbowl Sunday

Super Bowl 44 turned out to be a pretty good game, I was rooting for the Saints so I fully expected them to lose. The win was a nice surprise. The downside was coverage starting at around 10am for a 5:30pm kick off. How many inspirational vignettes about football can you take?

Dog Tags

For dogs, not dogfaces. Following the growing trend we're cancelling our hard line, thus all things associated with that number must be changed. Like where to call if a puppy goes on the lam.

Mr. Roboto

I know I'm a total geek but I love working with our tape archival machine. You feed the tapes into it, then can watch through a little window as robotic arms take and file the tapes away, or retrieve them for off-site storage.

Young Comics

I just ran across this budding Internet sensation, Axe Cop. The basic premise is a comic artist who has a 5 year old brother was having fun turning his little brother's stories into comics for him. He tossed a couple online just to show his friends, and it took off from there. They're hilarious, the mix of a kid's random imagination and the guy's art. Don't miss the "Ask Axe Cop" section.

Concording To King

Not really something you read cover to cover, but if you're a fan of the Dark Tower a really valuable companion piece..
