Gone Staley

Alice In Chains released a new album today, their first without Lane Staley. I was skeptical but the releases I've heard on XM are better than expected.

Oh dust covered recumbent bicycle, after four weeks of being ignored I return to you.

So Jaded

This is Sandis, my jade plant. Grown as a college freshman Botany class project from a single leaf. Admittedly Mari takes care of "him" now more than I.

Hot Pix

Because I don't get enough of computers at work, I spent time taking apart one of my video cards as it's fan was making an obnoxious whine.

You know you're a sucker for your pets when, after a long day at work, you make a special run to the store just for their favorite treat because you ran out.

Working For The Weekend

Or is that through the weekend? Yep, back at work. Here's a picture I took of the plugs on the back of a machine I was moving so I would be sure they all went back in the right place.

Batergame

I don't usually buy new release games, I like to wait a bit for the price to come down, but I'd been hearing good things about this one. No disappointments, so far it's extremely good.

Bill And Steve

My desk, finally organized. With a new addition to the right, as my new employers really like Macs, so it was time to break down and add one to my setup.

The Scene

The Scene's first edition in the new, glossy pages era. I was skeptical at first, but after seeing the finished product I think it looks really good. The Fall Guide - all things fun and interesting to do this fall around Nashville.

Leaving Steinhart

My To-Do list is down from four pages and a mountain of sticky notes, to just one page and two stickies.

Offer

A whole weekend off. And yes the last two pictures were taken on different days. Our dogs are just as set in their ways as we are, they even have "sides" on the couch.

Off

With Mari in Atlanta I waited with baited breath for the call into work. But it never came. My first weekend off in two weeks?

I haven't had time to read it, so no summary this week. Enjoy the cover. Oh, and it's 9/9/09 which is kind of cool.

Any Openings At That Mine?

And on cue, back to work I went. The view from my new office isn't bad though. That's a one day three day weekend.

Just Do It

Mari has wanted her nose pierced for a long time. It's one of those things that would casually pop up in conversation over the years but we never did anything about it. A constant "someday". Well for whatever reason today we just went and did it, spontaneously. She now has a little diamond stud.

Forced To Relax

Sunday was all relaxation. I started a new game. The Force Unleashed has actually been out for a long time but I'm just getting around to playing it.

Still Better Than A Coal Mine

Plummer by day, IT by night. Into work I had to go, where the rest of the day and well into the night was spent getting SouthComm's accounting software moved over from Grassmere and installed locally. While losing my Saturday was annoying (though not unexpected) it did turn out well in some regards. It was a project where it seemed every step tossed up a roadblock, but each time I figured it out (sometimes cleverly if I do say so). By the end it was one of those ego polishing moments where you step back and feel really good about how good you are at your job. Karma knows though. Balance in all things. My fixed toilet? Yeah, it started leaking.

Weekend In Review

The three day "weekend" started with me taking apart the downstairs toilet to replace a leaking seal.

Into The New

Here's my new office at the end of a very long day. It wasn't as bad logistically as I had feared, though I'm still utterly physically exhausted. I suppose the worst part was seeing friends go to the new office who weren't happy about it, and having people from the Grassmere office arrive that weren't happy about it. Though in some ways that just showed we're all in the same boat, whether on the Nashville Sc3ne side or the SouthComm side. The last sad moment was realizing in some ways the Sc3ne ended today. We used to be our own thing even if a part of VVM, but now that all of our departments are merged into SouthComm's, we're really SouthComm, who has a product called the Nashville Sc3ne. If that made any sense. Who knows. Either the SouthComm vision will take off and this will prove to be the model that lets print media survive into the digital future, or it won't.

Out Of The Old

I cleared out my office a day early, since I know I will be completely swamped tomorrow when the real convergence of SouthComm and the Nashville Scene begins.

Will gays and lesbians finally start getting the rights and respect they deserve in Nashville? Stay tuned.

Making Wilford Brimley Proud

Thanks to the no crunchy foods policy breakfast has changed to oatmeal. I thought it would be a chore, I never used to like oatmeal, but I guess my palate has changed because it's been pretty good so far.
