They later enjoyed sitting on the landing and greeting all the Trick-or-Treaters.

Abandoning The Titanic
Left work early to avoid the impending insanity that is downtown on a Monday Night Football home game.

Noble Pursuits
Back in the warm surrounds of books and coffee on the hunt for Aldous Huxley. Sure we could get them online, and probably cheaper there, but nothing ever beats the special aura of a bookstore.

Stuff
An abacus, a guitar pick, an extracted mouse wheel, and an RJ-45 cap. This is what you take a picture of to kill time at 8:20pm when waiting for the paper to be finished.

Hanging My Chads
Waiting in line to vote. In front of us (seen here in the blue jacket), a little old lady who declared there hasn't been a candidate worth voting for since Harry Truman, but she still votes so she can claim the right to complain about it. Behind us a gentleman who declared he wouldn't vote for Obama, because he won't vote for anyone born in Swahili. Neither would I buddy, but in my case maybe it's because Swahili is a language, not a country. Guess he's on board the Ignorance Express. Mari directed him to fact checker online, to which a woman replied "How can you trust that?". She answered because it's a non partisan site with no agenda other than to tell the truth. The reply to that "Yeah, well anyone can type anything into a computer." We gave up, and fell back on the smile and nod.

Hang Up
Another excellent Best Of party. Of the three I've been to this was my personal favorite. The place was packed, but it didn't feel claustrophobic. There were many bars so the lines didn't get ridiculous as in previous years. And taking a break from the noise to enter the gallery (where pictures are not allowed) to walk through an exhibit of Rodin sculptures was amazing.
Eat Up
One of the two "winner" rooms, where the winners showcase their wares. 95% of it being food, but a few places like Publix handed out grocery bags and other stuff instead.
Walk Up
One of the two long halls connecting the two rooms with the food in them, as well as the outside area. This really created a nice flow and lots of movement and space, unlike the Country Music Hall of Fame where everyone was basically crammed into one big room.

The Scene
Best of Nashville 2008. Our biggest issue in both size and revenue, ever. Not bad in a down economy. Also, IMHO, one of the best looking editions we've done inside and out. On to the party!

Sporking Goods
Our official Iron Fork trophy arrived recently. This is what the winner will receive upon winning the competition. Much like the Stanley Cup it's the kind that will be passed from winner to winner.

(No) Signs Of Change
This is my front yard. Notice anything different? Maybe the fact someone swiped our Obama signs. We won't be silenced, we're heading to the local Obama HQ and buying a bunch more so we can replace them as often as we need to until election day.

Debate Two
Both stood their ground, no major mistakes. So Obama won by proxy as it's McFail that needs to make up some serious ground. One interesting note (to me at least) was McFail left almost immediately, while Barack and Michelle stayed and took picture after picture with members of the audience. At first I though they were just being biased towards Obama because he was all they were showing on TV, but then they panned out and.....no McCain.

Escaping The Inferno
So it took me almost a month but I got through it. Admittedly near the end I just cheated and read the translator's summary of each canto. It was either that or let my brain explode (you can only take so many obscure allusions to moderately known Florentine artists and politicians that you have to Wikipedia before you realize life's too short.) Anyway, something I always wanted to read and I did, so check that off the list and on to the next.

Debating Vices
VP Debate. Biden was solid, but unfortunately Sarah "Fargo" Palin didn't make any major mistakes. I thought it was close, so I was pleasantly surprised when polls showed Biden the winner by an average of a 2 -1 margin. I expected Palin the get the pity vote, as all she had to do was remember her name to improve on disastrous past performances.

The Scene
Apparently if you're a woman, no matter what is wrong with you, it's caused by the same demon. And all you need to do is pray. Or is that prey?
